Based on the “Yoga Sutras of Patañjali“. Patañjali was basically the original “mind coach” of yoga. His Yoga Sutras are short little wisdom lines that help us understand our thoughts, handle stress better, and feel more grounded — on and off the mat.
June - “Turn Your Energy Toward What You Want”
Tapas is the Sanskrit word for our inner fire — the energy that helps us stay committed to what matters, even after the initial excitement has faded.
As we move through the month, take a moment to reflect:
- What do I truly want right now?
- What small changes would support the life I want to create?
- Where am I being called to show up more consistently?
Tapas isn’t about pushing harder or being perfect. It’s about choosing, again and again, to take the next small step.
Whether it’s coming to your yoga mat, sitting for a few quiet breaths, starting a project you’ve been putting off, or creating a healthier habit, Tapas is the steady commitment that carries you forward.
Each time we honour a promise we’ve made to ourselves, we strengthen our capacity to stay present with whatever arises — the doubts, the distractions, the discomfort, and the old patterns that would rather keep us where we are.
Like tending a small fire, consistency matters more than intensity.
This month, notice where you can nurture that inner flame. Not through force, but through gentle persistence.
Tapas reminds us that lasting change is rarely dramatic. It is built through small, conscious choices made day after day
“Set your life on fire.
Seek those who fan your flames.” – Rumi

Practice:
This month, choose one commitment and stay with it for 30 days.
Some ideas:
- 10 minutes of yoga each morning.
- 5 minutes of meditation every day.
- A daily walk, whatever the weather.
- Drinking water before your coffee.
- Going to bed 15 minutes earlier.
The practice is not really about the activity itself.
The practice is keeping the promise.
Memorize a mini poem:
I don’t need a perfect day.
I need to keep returning to what matters.
I show up.
And I change.
Repeat an Affirmation:
I honour my intentions with patience and commitment.
